Tell us about yourself: I am married with 7 kids ages 2 – 21. The oldest five are from my Husbands first marriage and the 2 youngest are ours together. We are raising all the kids together in our home. We are a very strong Christian family. We love movies, swimming, get togethers with other families, game nights we do a lot together.
How did you make the decision to pursue your art career and work from home? I have always been pretty crafty. I have always wanted to create things for others and when I found the opportunity I decided to give it a try. I love having my shop and finally finding ways to create special gifts for new customers.
How do you balance work and family? As my shop has become more busy we have had to find ways to create more time for me to work. So after dinner in the evenings the older kids and my husband try to take care of things and get little kids to bed so I can go work in my craft area.
If you could go back in time to the beginning stages of your venture, what advice would you give yourself? I think I would have to say become more organized earlier on. There have been a lot of things to learn to keep track of and figuring out how to prepare materials and organize money for supplies was not as easy as I had originally thought.
Tell us about your average day: Wow…really? I get my kids up and off to school. I have one toddler still home with me. I usually come home and get all my chores and important things done. Spend some time with my daughter and 3 days a week I watch 2 other children out of my home too. Have lunch with my daughter/other children. Then during nap time finish anything else I need to get done. After nap pick up my kids from school. Come home do home work, get dinner started, and other kids get picked up. After dinner bath and bed for little ones. Time for me to work for an hour or two. Before bed I make time to sit down with my husband and then off to bed. It is actually kinda crazy sometimes.
What do you love most about owning and operating your own creative business? It is so much fun and an outlet for me. It is a way for me to let all the other things go and have time alone. It can really be relaxing for me.
Besides your work and family, what else do you enjoy doing? I love to watch my children play. Especially when they do not know I am watching. They are just so amazing and funny to watch together. They love each other and rarely fight they truly enjoy their time together. When I get a chance alone I also love to read.
Why do you think consumers should shop handmade? Handmade gifts are so much fun. I always know when I bring a handmade gift to someone they most likely won’t have anything like it. They are a special one of a kind gift that to me say that person really went out of their way to get something special.
